Volunteer Drivers

Drivers are the whole program. Without someone on the street, the food stays in the freezer and the week stays silent.

The role

What a route looks like

You pick up frozen meals and groceries at our Northeast Philadelphia facility or a neighborhood staging site, then deliver to a small set of client friends — usually four to eight households on a route you keep.

The delivery takes a minute. The visit is the point: a knock, a name, a few minutes of conversation, and a quick sense of whether anything has changed since last week. If something seems wrong, you tell staff and we follow up.

  • About 2–3 hours, once a week, on a day you choose
  • Your own vehicle; coolers and insulated bags provided
  • Valid driver's license and current insurance required
  • Orientation covers food handling, route logistics, and what to report
  • Routes across Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties

Getting on a route

Four steps to your first delivery

  1. 1

    Apply

Submit the volunteer application with your availability and ZIP code.

  2. 2

    Orientation

Short training on food safety, client privacy, and route procedure.

  3. 3

    Shadow a route

Ride along with an experienced driver before taking your own.

  4. 4

    Take your route

Same neighbors, same day each week — that consistency is the service.

What drivers say

You become the standing appointment

Drivers tell us the same thing: they came to move boxes and stayed for the people. Client friends learn their name, remember their kids, and watch the window for the car.
